Virgin partners with Google to provide email

Virgin Media has announced a partnership with Google to power its email service to enable better management of the inbox and more storage space.

Available to the first 20,000 to sign today on a pilot basis, the service will be offered to all customers in the near future, with a maximum of 10@virginmedia.com authorized addresses per user.

Virgin claims that all the bits that make up the Gmail service from Google (as the message more easily search, management of mobile viruses and spam and control) will be available for emailers, using Google Apps Partner Edition , which allows companies to use Google's services under their own domain name.

Google and son e-mail discussion, already an integral part of the Gmail experience, will also be focused on users of Virgin Media.

In the old with the new

Those who have already a@blueyonder.co.uk, @ ntlworld.com or@virgin.net e-mail will be able to keep their domain or choose to enroll in a new@virginmedia.com e-mail but all are likely to use the new Google collaboration.

Google Apps Partner Edition is also planned for companies who want to use services like Google Calendar, Docs and Talk, and it seems Virgin Media wants to add to his service in the future:

"With e-mail so important in everyday life, we are delighted to work with Google and the launch of a brand new, feature-rich and easy to use email service," said Alex Green, Executive Director Online Virgin Media. "We look forward to exploring the future of Google services and to continue to provide market-leading communications and entertainment to our customers."
